housewives don't need to study

But unfortunately, I do.

I've been toying with the idea of one day being a doctor. This is more a vague and unsettling (in a good way) idea, rather than a plan or anything of the sort. In addition to med school, it would require significant post-bacc work (I'm a humanities major and a little late in my career to just change majors), so it wouldn't be a simple undertaking. Anyway I only mention this because S, dental student extraordinaire, brought her anatomy atlas to the library when we met to study (now), and I totally have to say, humans are fascinating and gross. And yet I cannot stop looking at the pictures.

Also, flavored coffee is disgusting. The smell of hazelnut brew is enough to put me off my feed. Anyone who knows me knows that that is pretty serious, as I munched cheese nips while flipping through the anatomy atlas. I guess I'm a coffee purist at heart.

The world certainly needs more good doctors, but I understand that it is a lot of work. Like teaching, it's got to be something you're very passionate about (though at least you tend to get paid better as a doctor and get more respect).

I do disagree with the title, not that I consider myself a housewife so much as a work from home wife (putting my Classical Studies degree to good use as a blogger and web site designer). I don't know how serious you were about the title and I'm certainly not outraged or anything, but I just wanted to say that even if I were all about the housework and traditional housewife duties, I'd hate not having a degree at all. It's better security, and personally, I think it makes me more interesting to others, especially my husband (he's a nerd, too) --- not that people with degrees aren't interesting, of course, but my two majors and two minors give me plenty to talk about. And now, I'm back in school at a community college taking band and singing classes so that I'm not stuck at home all day alone.

And as I do take over domestic duties more, I'm learning that there is a lot of learning in that as well. If only I could major in that! I didn't take HomeEc in high school, but ironically, my husband did. As a result, he knows a lot more about this stuff than I do, but he's not home enough to do it all himself.
